Senior Furniture & Joinery Designer - Solidworks & Swood Specialist
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and confident 3D drawing professional who wants to be part of a growing business where their expertise will have real impact. You will work closely with our project management and manufacturing teams, playing a key role in delivering high-quality bespoke furniture and joinery projects. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between high-end aesthetic design and precision manufacturing. This is not a concept design role; you will be responsible for building fully parametric, production-ready models using SolidWorks and SWOOD. As an in-office team member, you will work directly with our Production Manager and CNC operators to ensure every millimetre of a design is optimised for our shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Modelling: Develop complex 3D assemblies of bespoke furniture and cabinetry using SolidWorks.
SWOOD Integration: Utilize SWOOD Design to apply materials, edge-banding, and grain direction.
Automation: Build and maintain a library of SWOOD Boxes (connectors, hinges, drawer slides) to streamline the design-to-manufacturing workflow.
Manufacturing Output: Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOM), Cut Lists, and CNC programs (via SWOOD CAM) for our AES Extreme UltraLine and Rover Multi Up M G 1556 machines. Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure smooth handover from design to production.
Prototyping: Transition from on screen to the shop floor to troubleshoot assemblies and refine construction methods in real-time.
Drawings: Prepare and issue clear, precise working drawings for the workshop. Review, refine, and improve drawings based on feedback from clients, architects, and internal teams. Identify and resolve material and manufacturing constraints during the design phase. Maintain organised and accurate drawing records within the company database
Ensure all designs meet client expectations and relevant building regulations.
Required Technical & Other Skills
- SolidWorks Proficiency: 3+ years of professional experience (CSWP/CSWE preferred).
- SWOOD Expert: Proven experience with SWOOD Design and SWOOD CAM is preferred.
- Joinery Knowledge: A deep understanding of material tolerances (MDF, Veneer, Solid Wood), and hardware integration.
- Drafting: Ability to produce clear, detailed 2D technical drawings for workshop assembly.
- Proven experience producing detailed technical and production drawings.
- Strong 3D visualisation and spatial awareness.
- Background in joinery or carpentry.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
